What’s Your Roadblock

We’ve all had roadblocks at some time or another that have stopped us dead in our tracks. Make a decision today to recognize your roadblocks. Here are the most common roadblocks and ways to overcome them.

MINDSET

Everything begins with a thought. It all starts in the mind.

What’s on your mind? Negative or positive? Are you questioning your ability? It’s called “head talk.” Do you have these thoughts? What’s in this for me?  Am I qualified? Do I have the discipline required?  Am I assertive enough? I’m an introvert. This is taking more money than I anticipated.  Will my personal life be neglected? Who will support me?

RESET HEAD TALK

Change your thoughts by visualizing what you want. Realize you have something to offer the world. Study what you want to know.

Start with a plan of action that will work with your personality. Keep it simple when reaching into unexplored territory. Tap into available resources. Get an accountability partner. Start with people you know that know you. Your physician, dentist, hairstylist, realtor, and organizations you are already involved with are potential partners you’re familiar with and who are familiar with you. Believe that family and true friends will support you knowing what makes you happy. The most significant investment will always be you.

SELF SABOTAGE 

We’ve all unintentionally engaged in self sabotage. The biggest culprit is how we spend our time. We’re busy from sunup to sundown with housework, kids, phone calls, self-maintenance, and running errands.  All these are a normal part of life during various stages and times. Oftentimes normal everyday busyness is not factored into decision making to accomplish other priorities including work schedules.

MANAGING YOUR TIME

Time management is a myth. We don’t manage time, we manage what we do with our time. We all have the same 24 hours. To make the most of your 24 hours here are a few tips. Plan your work and work your plan. Know what you want to accomplish within a day. Have a buffer zone for unexpected circumstances.  Let others know your work schedule. Know how long it takes to complete each task. Doing these things will put everything in proper perspective.

STAYING MOTIVATED

Motivation is very short lived. To sustain your momentum read your mission and vision statement regularly. Know that your accountability partner(s) are nearby. Beware of scarcity mentality such as: focusing on lack, holding onto things tightly, resisting change, reluctant giving, “status quo is good enough.” Embrace abundant mentality: focus on the possibilities, think big, hold all things loosely, embrace change, give generously. Excellence should always be your standard.

Now it’s time to make the decision on what you want and why. If your why isn’t strong enough, you will fall by the wayside.
