A Focus And Discipline Mindset

You have heard the phrases “Stay Focused” and “Stick to the Plan.”  Well, where are the instructions to GET FOCUSED and remain FOCUSED. In this world of today we have countless distractions:  people, noises, electronic devices, and plain old short attention spans. The definition of focus (n) center of attention, (v) aim attention at.  It takes discipline (self-restraint, control) to stay focused. We’ve all had those moments when we possessed great discipline when we were able to execute.  Here are a few examples: bank discrepancies, you stop in your tracks and call or go immediately to your bank to handle the situation; car accident,  you immediately call 911, exchange insurance information, possibly go to hospital to get checked, follow up on insurance claim, etc.  You stay focused until the task has been completed.

Your brain processes a series of chronological sequences that will need to take place.  We can accomplish so much more in our everyday lives as well as in the workplace when we stay focused on tasks at hand.   Here are some strategies to implement to achieve a focused and disciplined mindset.

STRATEGY #1

Create Rituals, consistency will help you generate the energy you need to make things happen within the day, month, week, and year. Positive thoughts create positive rewards; take baby steps, this is a process. You will gradually notice how often you have negative thoughts and replace them with positive thoughts. Once your rituals are in place, it will become as easy as breathing. Make one change at a time, keep it simple. Do not give up if you slip back into your old pattern. Recognize what’s not good behavior and remedy appropriately.

  • Talking too long on the phone
  • Too much time on social media
  • Being late
  • Procrastination
  • Not following through on promises
  • Handling same paperwork multiple times

When you make these small changes, the right people will show up in your life to assist you.  This strategy will determine your future.

STRATEGY #2

Visualize before acting on a project or task; see it, think it, be present in it as if you were there. Set aside time to do this, it should provide clarity. If not, you will drift subconsciously off target. Know the process, pursue it, know it is worthy, see yourself accomplishing the project or task.

STRATEGY #3

Self-discipline allows you to manage your time, without this #1 and #2 are useless.  Time is irreplaceable, you must choose the sequence of events you want to take place.  When you really want to achieve something, that is when you invest the time.  This will also let others know what is important to you.  The next time you are on social media ask yourself, “Is this the best use of my time?”  You must have a system for getting things done.

Make this list the night before for planning purposes, make this a ritual. Now that you have this list you must discipline yourself to commit the time and attention needed to complete the project/task. When this practice is in place you will experience higher energy that drives you to get all missions accomplished.  Your confidence and self-esteem will skyrocket. Controlling your thoughts and feelings  creates  A FOCUSED MINDSET.
