Overcoming Distractions and Setbacks
Before you can overcome distractions and setbacks, you must realize that you are being distracted. Don’t you notice that you are constantly late for appointments because of accepting those casual phone conversations? The same is true with setbacks. Did you realize that you had a setback? When your manager informed that the office would close for a 30-day renovation, but that the business would still go on. Did you believe that it was your chance for some much-needed rest and relaxation? But you were still required to complete the projects from work in a timely manner even if you are not at the office. Let us define and expound on distractions and setbacks.
A distraction is a drawing off on a diversion of the mind. To divert. Distractions can happen whether you are at work, during social activities, while doing housework or even while you are having respite or plain old downtime. When you begin a task and something or someone deters you from accomplishing it in the allotted time, it is a distraction.
Some distractions like television, phone calls, extended work on a certain project, accepting additional duties, and wandering thoughts, can also create a dilemma in completing needed tasks proficiently.
Plan of Action:
Know your end goal (visual completion).
Know how long it will take to complete (hours or days).
Know what is involved in getting it done (who, what, when and where).
“PLAN YOUR WORK AND WORK YOUR PLAN”
A setback is a misfortune or reversal, as in progress. Setbacks recognize or put a name to the misfortune that created the hindrance or delay, whether it is inclement weather, a move, illness, or many other things that could be completely out of your control.
Plan of Action:
Refocus mentally.
Calculate time needed to invest in getting things back on track.
Decide who needs to be involved and contacted to assist.
Use a step-by-step strategic approach.
Stay calm and motivated. Understand life happens, you can get through this.
