Free Of Emotional Bondage

Emotions are reactions that produce responses verbally or physically to environmental situations.  Emotions can also be defined as a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. Even though emotions are temporary, the feelings they stir may last and grow over a lifetime.

Feel the Fire

Thoughts become fuel, use them for a good purpose. Take control of your feelings. Allow your positive thoughts to align with your actions.  Easy paths are not always the best path.  Believe you are always in control of yourself.  Surface feelings are  on the spot and sometimes irate, for example, someone took your money. Heart feelings are thought out requiring a plan and follow through, for example, your last college course is not available.

Here are a few emotions that can lead you into bondage:

  • Anger
  • Unforgiveness
  • Guilt

Emotions and our feeling of them can be very complicated. Cause, reaction, and believing the worst-case scenario, can lead to long term effects.  Emotions are either basic, secondary, or tertiary. While anger is a basic emotion, unforgiveness is secondary, and guilt is tertiary.  To explain this layer of emotions, you may become angry when a friend betrays you and experience unforgiveness as a result.  When the friend asks for forgiveness and displays regret for their actions, you may feel guilt for your prolonged feelings of unforgiveness.  As a man thinketh so is he.  Refuse to play the negative movie over and over in your mind. Although anger can seem justified, it can lead to more negative behavior. Do you know your triggers? Is it gossip, unfair treatment, or manipulation? To get a handle on uncontrol anger or anger that affects your positive being, remember that anger is a reaction to the experience, belief, or memories.  Ask yourself is this feeling/reaction healthy?

  1. Let it go! Regain your composure to what is true.
  2. Talk to the person you are angry with.
  3. Have a friend who will tell you what you need to hear from a place of reason.

UNFORGIVENESS is holding onto something of the past that is slowly torturing you and causing stress and sometimes poor health. The act or person that you are holding accountable for these feelings is usually long gone. Forgiveness is an act of faith and trust to release and move forward.

GUILT controls your soul and personality, slowly altering your every action and thought. You condemn and convict yourself whether real or imagined.  These can be replaced by:

  1. Acknowledging and deciding you will not live a life of guilt.
  2. Staying in the present, guilty thoughts are in the past.
  3. Guarding your mind with the knowledge of your abilities and gifts.
